Fall in Wexford - Wall Street Journal

Fall in Wexford - Wall Street Journal

A few weeks ago i was asked by The Wall Street Journal to shoot a travel feature on the 'Fall in Wexford'. It being Ireland this can be a concerning assignment what with our unpredictable weather conditions.

I arrived down to overcast skies - but no rain - suddenly the clouds opened up and this stunning Autumn light shone forth for about two hours - where upon i acted as quickly as possible and covered as much exterior ground as possible, working till the light was gone - as i work almost soley with natural light, managing to shoot some interior spaces as well.

The following morning after having been to bed nice and early, and refraining from pubs and music, i awoke to what can only be described as Ireland at its worst - literally horizontal rain and wind.

Here is a link to the spread.

A selection of random photographs from Sri Lanka whilst shooting for my new book

I am now on my last week of a three month back to back shoot here in Sri Lanka, for which the first week i was travelling with my gorgeous wife and three little ones - which it should be noted, is tiring stuff despite what one might think, moving every three days as was the norm, with back to back shooting pushed things to new levels of energy requirements. Its been a rewarding and eye opening trip with twenty eight houses, villas and a few boutique hotels photographed, not to mention the thousands of other photographs i am now starting to go through. Here is a small selection of some from this trip.

A portrait session of Helga de Silva of Helga's Folly in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

Helga's Folly in Kandy is still one of the most remarkable places to visit in Sri Lanka if not the world. There is no place quite like it. It changes all the time, and although it appeared in my first ever book 'Living in Sri Lanka' over 12 years ago. We re-visited again to shoot a portrait and be entertained by the amazing Helga who is such a wonderful character.

It would have been great to include it again in our latest edition we are here working on, as it has changed so much since shooting it in 2002, but as Helga points out it will continue to do so. This book is all new material which has been fun researching and shooting, with back to back shooting and moving for three months now.
